The Phyllis Wheatley Community Center is proud to announce our Words of Wheatley Youth Poetry Contest!
We invite students aged 13-19 residing in Minneapolis to express their thoughts and feelings inspired by the legacy of Phyllis Wheatley, an African American poet and abolitionist.
How to Win
To celebrate Black History Month and to honor the woman whom we are named after, please write a poem (100 words or less) on the following theme:
